About The West Hackney Parochial Charity
"The West Hackney Parochial Charity" is a Hackney based charity, registered number 208941, which came about as the result of the amalgamation of 32 ancient individual charities, originally set up to benefit the residents of the ecclesiastical Parish of West Hackney. The first legacy was left by Thomas Heron in 1603, The year Queen Elizabeth I died.

The Charity is managed by a group of Trustees drawn from the local area and administered by The Trust Partnership which acts as the Clerk to The Trustees.

The Charity distributed more than half a million pounds to charities, organisations, schools and individuals in the West Hackney area between September 2008 and September 2009, but now have more limited resources.

Current Funding Priorities
The Trustees consider grant applications for purposes that come under the Charity"s objects and current funding priorities which are:-

  • Education & training opportunities for young people.
  • To relieve individual or general need, hardship or distress.

Who May Apply To The Charity For A Grant?
The Trustees welcome applications to the Charity from individuals and organisations that live or are based within the area of benefit, which is the Parish of West Hackney.

How do I apply for a grant?
Complete an application form either for an individual or for an organisation. You can download one from this site or, if you prefer, contact us and we will send you one. If you are not sure if you are eligible, please contact us. We would be happy to help.

If you are unable to complete the form yourself, another person may apply on your behalf.

Types of Grant
West Hackney Parochial Charity have 3 Grant types.

Project Grants: Project grants are one off grants for projects that are in line with the objectives of the charity. Normally the Trustees would like to see evidence of matched funding.

Strategic Grants: set up to support local key partner organisations that are managed and based in the parish with a strong volunteer base. Suitable organisations are sort proactively by the Trustees and typically will be for more than one year.

Individual Grants: These cover a wide range of needs with priority to those in hardship or distress.

What happens next?
Once we have received your form we will acknowledge it and, we will let you know if we need any further information. In any case a Trustee or a representative may contact you and visit you to discuss your application.

If you have a deadline to meet, you should allow at least three months between submitting your initial application and the deadline.

Deadlines
The Trustees meet four times a year and will consider Individual applications at all of the meetings. THE 2010 DEADLINES FOR INDIVIDUAL APPLICATION ARE: 1st February; 17th May; 16th August;  8th November

Project Grants will be considered twice a year. THE 2010 DEADLINES FOR PROJECT APPLICATION ARE: 1st February; 16th August 

Strategic Grants will be considered annually. THE 2010 DEADLINE FOR STATEGIC GRANTS IS: 8th November

Any applications or further information recieved after these dates will not be considered until the following meeting.

Please note that, if you are successful, your grant may be subject to certain conditions which you must agree to before accepting the grant.

Soon after the meeting, you will be informedof their decision. This may be Supported, Rejected or Defered till the next meeting.

Payments will be made after the relevent meeting and essential sdministration has been completed. Payments are usually made by cheque.
